Advanced Course Chemistry for Biologists - Course E16
This course provides you in a compact form with the chemical knowledge required for routine work in a biological laboratory.
After attending this course, you will feel confident in the proper handling of chemicals and calculation of concentrations and pH values. Refresh your knowledge of reaction behaviour, substance groups and basic chemical techniques.
The course focuses mainly on:
- Organic and inorganic chemistry in biology
- Reaction pathways and reaction behaviour of substance groups and functional groups
- Acids, alkalis and solvents
- Stoichiometry,calculation of concentrations and molarities
- pH-value calculation
- Acids, salts and buffers
- Basic techniques in a biological-chemical laboratory
- Metrology of important chemical parameters
- Law of mass action and dynamic reaction balances
- Proper handling of hazardous substances and disposal of chemicals in accordance with regulations
This course requires a basic understanding of chemistry, but no other previous knowledge is required.
Duration: 2 days (9:30am - 5:00pm)
