Course
PCR Techniques - Course E02
This basic course communicates the biochemical, molecular biological and technical fundamentals of the various PCR processes, as well as other methods for their optimization, to enable the conducting of successful PCR reactions, even under difficult outline conditions, and ensure the proper response to any problems which may occur. To complement the theoretical part of the course, you will also gain practical experience of the utilization, establishment and optimization of PCRs for all important areas of application in comprehensive PCR experiments.
In addition to an in-depth introduction to the fundamentals of PCR technology, the course focuses mainly on:
- Template optimization (acquisition, qualitative and quantitative analysis)
- Primer design and primer optimization
- Optimization of PCR test parameters and reaction components
- PCR enzyme systems, PCR buffers and additives
- PCR techniques (including Multiplex PCR, RT PCR)
- PCR for special areas of application (including cloning, pathogen and GVO detection)
- PCR Thermocycler technique
- Analysis of PCR products
- Catalogue of measures for the solution and avoidance of typical problems and sources of error in everyday laboratory practice.
This course is intended to enable you to set up PCR experiments professionally using sound specialized knowledge, to select the most favourable technique in each instance and adapt it to your applications, even in difficult outline conditions, and purposefully find the right solution approach to any problems which may occur. Use the acquired knowledge to avoid time-consuming (and expensive) unsuccessful attempts and open up the entire spectrum of state-of-the-art PCR technologies!
This basic course requires fundamental knowledge of the structure of nucleic acids and basic molecular biological techniques.
